Blue Alert To Join Amber Alert System

California’s Amber Alert notification system may soon be expanded to include attacks against officers of the law, when the officer is killed or seriously wounded and the suspect escapes.

The bill was written by Republican Senator George Runner of Lancaster and has been unanimously approved by the state Senate and sent on to Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The bill calls for using the existing Amber Alert system, allowing officials to send out a Blue Alert with a license plate number and suspect description, and through the Emergency Broadcast System on radio, television and freeway signs to alert the public about dangerous criminals.
